Journal

I thought I would try to express a little of the dullness that is my existence in the form of a journal. In other words, I wanted to share my boredom! Most recent entries are at the top. Keep an eye out for random updates.

P.S.

In association with Amazon.com, I've provided links to some items of interest. Sooner or later I'll work out a nice way to differentiate these links from other content. Any such links are referral links and I may earn a nominal credit of some sort if you buy something through one. You've been warned! Wait... that's a good thing. Okay, so I'm poor and I want to be able to buy more stuff.

Vacation, what vacation?

05/2003

Well, the summer semester started yesterday so my vacation is officially over. What did I do over my vacation? Well, I didn't come up with much to write prior to now... so... what does that say? Actually, I was sick and I didn't really do much of anything. I made my way through most of the boxes of stuff I had yet to unpack. I trashed a lot of random junk, bought a four-drawer filing cabinet to organize some papers (okay, a lot of papers), and I listened to music. Hmm... What else? Oh yeah... I bought an entertainment center/TV cabinet thing for my television. Actually, it's a computer cabinet, but it was cheap and works for the TV. I also bought my textbooks for this semester... $168 for three books. It's insane. So... Yeah, not much going on.

Hello?

Why do I feel so alone? Maybe I'm keeping the wrong hours. In any event, the time alone is paying off in the unpacking and organizing department. I've nearly managed to sort through my things and assemble them into some sort of livable space. It's unusual being able to walk through the middle of a room in the dark and not have to worry about stepping on things or tripping over a random box. Now, if I could only find someone to hang out with at 4:58 AM. Oh well, I can always work on some programs I've been writing.

Burning brightly, in the candle's light

I finally made it to see The Matrix Reloaded... at 11:30 AM on the 15th. Okay, so I didn't exactly take my time. I've been trying to ruin the ending for everyone by telling them that it ends with Neo discovering that Smith is really his father and that Trinity is his sister. However, I don't think anyone believed me. Besides, that plotline wouldn't make sense without a wookie. (Cue Ralph from The Simpsons saying, "I bent my wookie.") So, it was definitely worth seeing and the action sequences and special effects were amazing as was to be expected. I guess that's about all I have to say. Uh... yeah.

I'm still waiting for Matrix Reloaded to hit theaters. I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to find anyone to go see it with me though. How unfortunate. Other than that, I'm working on a couple of projects, finishing up network wiring at my new residence (no more cables running around walls, down stairs, etc.), playing with some content ideas for the site, and figuring out how to arrange all of my computer equipment so that everything fits nicely. It's really just a bad jigsaw puzzle. It would be nice to set a television up in here as well so that I can use my VCR and some of that other low-tech junk I have lying around. Heck, maybe I'll even drag out the old Atari 2600? Oh yeah... found it in a box when I was unpacking.

basically... I'm just sitting here

The Matrix Reloaded comes out in four days. Yes, I'm counting. I found a theater that's actually showing it before midnight on the 14th so I might try for that. I've been trying to find people to see it with but I haven't had much luck. There's a possibility that I might see it with my friend Melissa... but I'm hoping to see it a couple of times if possible. Anyone out there care to go see it with me? Oh wait; by the time you read this, it will probably be out on video. I should consider going real time with my journal posts. Hmmm... I'll have to consider it.

In other news, my friend Shannon went to visit a guy in California. I miss having her around to talk to even though she's normally hundreds of miles away. Go figure? News that's even more exciting: I bought a set of Lego bricks, Lego Designer - Mini Robots. I really need to photograph my growing collection and add some new stuff in the Tsumaranai Bricks section. I haven't really updated that one since the day I originally uploaded it. Scary.

After I started adding happies to the journal, I realized that I was seriously lacking enough variation to adequately express any meaningful emotions. That in mind, I think I'm going to work on creating some new ones. I think the main reason why they were so limited to begin with is that I created them to supplement what existed within AIM. That essentially excludes a generic smile, frown, wink, well... all of the generic ones. I'll have to work on creating some variety, some new and exciting happies that won't leave you guessing. I mean, the cursor in the eye dead happy really doesn't say much, but it sure is fun to look at. It's hopeless.

I need to buy a bigger filing cabinet

I've been organizing papers lately in an attempt to finish moving in. I sorted through multiple stacks of papers and notebooks, weeded out the blank sheets of paper, organized by subject... oh yeah... imagine the fun. If I were to stack everything in one nice neat stack, it would be about three feet tall... three feet of paper. I wonder how many trees had to die for all of it? The next step is to deal with all the junk that's still in boxes. My life exists in stacks, boxes, and piles. It's really getting to be an issue. On the other hand, all of the important stuff's easy to find... because it's on one of maybe 15 hard drives buried in one of thousands of folders. Yep. I also don't have covers on any of my vents. I should probably do something about that. If I have time before the summer semester starts, who knows... I might even hook up my television! Or maybe not... depends I guess.

I had this old message on my answering machine for around a year. It was one of those random wrong numbers where you end up with part of a conversation, two complete strangers arguing in this case. I couldn't bear to delete it because it was just plain funny. I'm not sure if the woman on the line is drunk, crazy, or what. The accents are memorable as well. You should download it... trust me, if it was worth saving for a year, it's worth 30 seconds to listen to it. Now available for your listening pleasure in Tsumaranai Junk: Random Audio!

Exciting new features that just come out of nowhere

05/2003

I was about to update the site and completely forgot about the April Journal. As I was adding it in with the new content, it dawned on me that something was missing... and the happies I added previously looked pretty bad. They were causing the last line of text on each post to hang low. In any event, this was all fixed in my new and exciting addition: title/mood/music/beverage thing. Um... yeah. So, essentially, at the top of posts, you will now see an exciting title, followed by a happy face of some sort, then whatever beverage I was drinking, my current music, and finally, the post as usual. What fun! Oh well, you're stuck with it so you better get used to it.

I spent the last half hour working on something new for Tsumaranai Destruction. It's a magic trick I sort of invented during study hall my sophomore year in high school. You should definitely go look for it. Here's the general background information: Once upon a time, in a class called Japanese, I often found random things to do to fill the middle of the class, when study hall was the task at hand. Okay, it's not really a task, I was trying to sound dramatic but failed miserably. In any event, I had electrical tape and permanent markers because any high school student knows that those things could come in handy at any moment. Better to be prepared than caught in a bind, right? So... I explained to my friend Drew how to write in reverse on the adhesive side of a small piece of tape with a permanent marker, and present the tape to an unsuspecting victim... er... willing participant. "Want to see a magic trick?" If/when they agree, you wave it around like an idiot, apply it to their forehead, and walk away. They're left with not only the feeling that you're bizarre, but also a nice semi-permanent moniker to wear throughout the day. They will generally (or so I assume from the very limited number of trial runs) peel the tape away, look at it, see nothing unusual, throw it away, and go on about their business. The humor ensues later when someone notices their forehead. That part probably won't take very long so you might want to plan a quick escape route. Right. Diagrams and redundant instructions are available in Tsumaranai Destruction for your viewing pleasure .

So far so good... I finished off the first day of May with a Final for my Operating Systems class. I'm pretty sure it went fine... but I finished way too early from the look of the room. I wasn't exactly paying attention to anything other than my test, but I'm sure that not more than a few people could have left the room before me. Scary... Anyhow... I sold my books for that class back and managed to get an astonishing $88.50. That seems like a lot, but it's less than either of the two books were individually. It's an evil business. After I got back from class, I ... my brain's not working. I don't remember what I did today... well... I ate some cold pizza... and... so... I know there's more to it than that, but I'm drawing a blank. I'm guessing I haven't had enough sleep in two or three weeks and the final was all my brain could handle. Right... I did talk to some friends, but I'm really not sure where all of the time went. Ah... I remember... I helped my dad install a new OS on his iPaq. Right... well, that was fun. I think.
