webcam JournalI thought I would try to express a little of the dullness that is my existence in the form of a journal. In other words, I wanted to share my boredom! Most recent entries are at the top. Keep an eye out for random updates. P.S.In association with Amazon.com, I've provided links to some items of interest. Sooner or later I'll work out a nice way to differentiate these links from other content. Any such links are referral links and I may earn a nominal credit of some sort if you buy something through one. You've been warned! Wait... that's a good thing. Okay, so I'm poor and I want to be able to buy more stuff. |
Hero for a day04/2003Oh, while on the school theme, I can't leave this out. My friend Melissa had an art project die on her and I got to play hero. It's always fun getting to save the day and having someone forever in your debt. Wait... I need to start collecting on some of those. In any event, either the Mac she was using or Illustrator decided to corrupt her file. Don't you hate that? When you spend hours of your life struggling with something important only to have a computer eat it? Thankfully, with the help of UltraEdit-32 (on a PC... the only Mac's I own are of the Plus variety) I was able to reconstruct an EPS header and get the file to load. She said she wanted to cry when I sent her the repaired file. Always glad to help out a friend in need. So, if you're some random person that found this through a search engine after having either your Mac or Illustrator corrupt an EPS file, it may just be a blank header (mostly Null's) and inserting a new one will likely do the trick... unless it's something else entirely... and in that situation, I can't really help you... well, unless you pay me. See? I only do free logo design for strangers... fixing files for free is something I reserve for my friends. Wait... why do I always end up fixing everyone's computer problems? It's a curse... I think... I'm not really sure... um... yeah. Beverage: Probably some flavor of SnappleMusic: I don't remember |
Pop!04/2003Since school's the only thing getting a substantial amount of my attention lately, I might as well write about it. It's going... and it's taking forever to get there. One big plus though, in my all too exciting general science class (because I saved my core classes for last... you know, because I like to torture myself), we watched a video (oooh... a video as something to do in a class, what's that?) on the Cane Toad in Australia. Talk about bizarre... at one point, the documentary followed a strange individual as he drove his car over toad after toad. The commentary and sound effects added quite a bit to the moment. I can't exactly quote because I wasn't taking notes... but I think he said, "If you line them up just right, front to back, they pop nicely as the air inside blows out their backside." Pop! Freaky. But hey, it was in the name of preserving the indigenous species. Beverage: Probably some flavor of SnappleMusic: I don't remember |
anti-poet04/2003I've been trying to write more poems lately but it hasn't been going extraordinarily well. On the other hand, I've been working on some that I started a long time ago and I'm making progress with them. Maybe one day I'll have some new poems to upload to AntiPoetics... because that's all it's about, the poetry... or lack thereof. I seriously need to work on the site. Maybe I'll try to squeeze it into my already crowded vacation schedule. Hmm... it'll be tight, but I might be able to find a few spare minutes. I'm terrible. I have my school projects to keep me company04/2003Any how, other than not sleeping much in a week and working continuously on projects for about a month now, I've been meeting some random but very cool people. People I know are meeting random/cool people as well. My friend Shannon found a guy she likes, my friend Christine's dating someone, and... well, I have my school projects to keep me company. The good news is, though, I've met some cool people and I'm going to try to arrange some sort of social activity for my small vacation before summer semester starts. I need to do something fun... I need to see the Matrix sequel, probably several times, and I need cool people to do that with. Other than that, I'll probably sleep through my vacation and any waking moment will be spent on other projects... just that they won't be school projects this time around. Then there's the small matter of the boxes I haven't unpacked from when I moved in February. It's almost May already and I still have a floor covered in boxes and stacks of stuff. I need to prioritize my vacation. Right: sleep, movie, coding, sleep, coding, unpack stuff, sleep... and by that time, the summer semester will probably have started up. I can't wait... um... yeah. What's shakin'?04/2003Wow, there was an earthquake today. Freaky. I definitely was not expecting it. Deep in thought, working on yet another late night school project, I found myself shaking... as well the house and everything else. Actually, I was sort of trying to stay awake while working on a project and talking to my friend Shannon. So, it could have been a tornado I thought, but there was no wind... and half an hour later it was all over the local news. Thankfully, they had nothing scientific to offer, but rather an endless stream of callers describing the event, over and over with more or less the same details each time. What fun. Photographic memory...04/2003I just scanned in a roll of film. It's the first one I've taken this year... tragic, eh? I used to burn through film faster than I could keep track of it. Somehow, over the past few years I've taken progressively less and less. I need to buy a digital camera. I figure it would be an excuse to take more pictures, save on development costs and scanning time, and I wouldn't feel bad about taking stupid pictures of stupid things. Seriously though, if I take something for a good reason, it means I'll end up scanning it in and using it for something. Scanning takes forever, and then I have to clean up dust artifacts, make all sorts of minor adjustments, etc... If I'm ever going to find the time to upload more pictures to AntiPoetics, that seems like it couldn't hurt. Beverage: Probably some flavor of SnappleMusic: I don't remember |
Salvage my empty moment...04/2003I'm trying to make some new friends... no, not out of Lego bricks. I figured that with the semester ending that I needed to try to find some people that I could potentially hang out with this summer. It's either that or I spend the whole thing coding. Not that coding is a bad thing, but I really need some sort of social interaction if I'm going to preserve my sanity. I've added a contact link for my Yahoo sn in the Contact area. If you have Yahoo Messenger or AIM and I don't know you, if you're reading this, the least you could do is say hi. Right? Beverage: Probably some flavor of SnappleMusic: I don't remember |
Just plain vanilla... er... sad04/2003Oooh... an update to a previous post. A couple of weeks ago my dad commented to me that he asked at Baskin Robins and they do, indeed, have vanilla... but they keep it behind the counter where you can't see it. I never said they didn't sell it... just that they didn't have it in the display case... lol... clearly it bothered him for several months to the point where he felt it was necessary to ask an employee. Scary... scary indeed. Beverage: Probably some flavor of SnappleMusic: Frou Frou - Details |
Cheap shipping rules04/2003Well, the CD's got here within a few days. Scary, eh? I guess it's good I didn't pay the extra $20 and have it show up just as quickly. Actually... I don't think I'd ever do that as I could have bought most of those CD's in local stores for what I paid plus the next day shipping costs. Retail is such a rip-off. Viva la online shopping... or something. I very much like Details by Frou Frou and the others are nice as well. If you're really bored check out the Music Collection and try to figure out what the new additions are. Beverage: Probably some flavor of SnappleMusic: Frou Frou - Details |
The end of an era04/2003I have officially attended one event on campus at my school. Scary, eh? I hung around after class and went to "casino night" with my friend Christine. Basically, we played blackjack for a couple of hours. Fortunately, we weren't playing with real money since I blew the $50 in fake money that I got at the door. So... what I did next was go back to the entrance and grab more money... oh yeah... lol... The deal was, at the end of the thing, you could use whatever chips you had left to buy raffle tickets. I gave everything I had to Christine and we waited around... but didn't win anything. Oh well, maybe next time... that would probably be next year. Check out the new titles... uh... yeah04/2003April's been around for a couple of days now and nothing much has happened. I've been busy working on several programs and haven't had much time for anything. I need a vacation. Other than that, I bought some more CD's tonight. I ordered them online though, so I won't see them for days or weeks, or whenever... lol... I always cheap out on the shipping, even if it means waiting three or four weeks for whatever it is. Unfortunately, I'm sure I'll be keeping busy until they get here. That's one of the few really good things about music as entertainment... at least you can listen to it while you work on other things. Now, if only I can find a way to sleep while simultaneously working on various projects, it will be a step in the right direction. Beverage: Probably some flavor of SnappleMusic: I don't remember |
