Journal

I thought I would try to express a little of the dullness that is my existence in the form of a journal. In other words, I wanted to share my boredom! Most recent entries are at the top. Keep an eye out for random updates.

P.S.

In association with Amazon.com, I've provided links to some items of interest. Sooner or later I'll work out a nice way to differentiate these links from other content. Any such links are referral links and I may earn a nominal credit of some sort if you buy something through one. You've been warned! Wait... that's a good thing. Okay, so I'm poor and I want to be able to buy more stuff.

Yeah...

So, yesterday I played around with a couple of functions in Visual Basic for converting to and from UTF-7 encoded text. Lots of fun... Corel Photo-Paint X3 uses UTF-7 encoding for some command parameters. Since that text is only somewhat readable, I needed the functions in order to easily parse my scripts in VB6 and VBA. (I didn't want to use the .NET stuff; don't ask.) Basically, this makes my life easier and I'll be able to get some use out of it in the future. Oh the excitement. Yeah.

Oh, the cold

I woke up this morning and I was freezing. It was definitely the highlight of my week... and the month so far. I don't know what it is about the Fall... I guess it's a sign that Winter's finally coming. Somehow, to me, I guess that means that things are going to be okay.

I've been cleaning lately and, while going through some old boxes, I found something... Well... Actually, I found something very scary. Today, I decided to dust off my find. You see... in 1996 I bought a box of Life Cereal that contained a copy of ChexQuest. Oh yes... a video game based on Chex cereal that was actually a modified copy of Doom. I dropped the game's WAD into my Doom Legacy folder and started it up. Yeah... I remembered the cheat codes and, with a quick IDCHOPPERS, I was running rampant with an automatic spork of death. Actually, I think they would rather you believe you were gently pushing the "flemoids" into an alternate dimension... with a glowing, rotating spork. Non-violent... Right. Maybe I should set up a Doom server and see if I can have a ChexQuest deathmatch. Uh huh...
