AntiPoetics - Poetry - Awake, Asleep

Awake, Asleep

the silence shattered
into diamonds and saphires
brittle glass, slow motion,
showering down through a symphony
of twisting steel and aluminum
for fourty mile an hour dead stop
with belt slapped bee sting
steering wheel concussion
and all there is to feel
is that sick emptiness of shock
waiting for the world to turn red
waiting for the world to turn purple
when you white out, grip the wheel
whiplash awake, wide eyes contracting
between the white and double yellow
drifting slowly back to center's safety
in slow motion, curtain strobe
nod, nod, nodding in time
to tires thump thumping lullaby
