Journal

I thought I would try to express a little of the dullness that is my existence in the form of a journal. In other words, I wanted to share my boredom! Most recent entries are at the top. Keep an eye out for random updates.

P.S.

In association with Amazon.com, I've provided links to some items of interest. Sooner or later I'll work out a nice way to differentiate these links from other content. Any such links are referral links and I may earn a nominal credit of some sort if you buy something through one. You've been warned! Wait... that's a good thing. Okay, so I'm poor and I want to be able to buy more stuff.

Some Summer Day

08/06/2005

I spent last Sunday morning sitting in my basement, listening to my vinyl copy of The Cure's Disintegration. It's one of those albums that I have to listen to all the way through never seem to grow tired of.

Last week was... I don't know, weird I guess. My sister came into town for a week but we didn't really hang out. I also worked on my grandfather's computer and fixed some things. His problem was an odd one and it took me a while to figure out, even though it should have been obvious. His copy of Windows XP wouldn't create or use a swap file and that caused performance to suffer greatly. Apparently, he had an older copy of the Intel Application Accelerator that had some known problems... one of which being the swap file issue. Uninstalling it was enough to fix it... I also invested $30 into an additional 256mb of RAM... he only had 256 to begin with, not that it's really a big problem, but throw AOL into the picture and... yeah, it crawled.

Wednesday I spent some time with Lauryn as sort of a one year anniversary/we're still friends kind of thing. I made her a blank book and a mix tape. The book was more of a piece of art: hand stitched spine, water damaged pages with the edges burned off, and a painted chipboard cover. I used a wire brush on the whole thing to finish it off and it turned out nicely. For whatever reason, I think her favorite of the two was the tape.

The day I worked on the computer I ended up with a pretty bad headache, took my temperature and it was a nice 101.1. I hate being sick and it's taken me over a week to get over it. I'm still coughing. Somewhere in there, Lauryn and I watched Noi and Bad Education. The first was a random Icelandic movie, stark and depressing, with a little bit of dark humor. It was worth watching if a bit slow on the progression. Bad Education on the other hand was markedly different. If you don't mind the subject matter of the film, it was good, but also depressing. I was sick, so... what else was I going to do, I watched more movies. National Treasure wasn't really worth the time I invested into it and I'm glad I didn't see it in the theaters. Yeah.

So... more movie rentals... White Noise and Willow. I saw Willow when it was originally released in theaters and it's a good film. Apparently, it's also the first film where digital morphing was used... Odd bit of movie trivia. I'm glad we rented it as White Noise was as entertaining as... well... watching snow on the TV. Okay, it wasn't that bad, but it could have been soooooooo much better. I'm glad I didn't see it in a theater. I think Lauryn's better at picking the foreign films. Uzumaki was my fault last month; I think we're even now.

Sometime during the week I asked Lauryn if she had seen The Last Unicorn and she hadn't... so, we made a trip to Media Play. The reviews were right about the DVD... The picture quality is that of a second generation VHS and the sound was pretty much the same. It was pan and scan too... ugh... but at eight bucks for a classic... I'll live with it.

What else... I don't know... I've been neglecting the site lately. I took a few photos earlier for one of the sections. They'll probably go up when this makes its way online. Other than that... hmm... new siding on the house, new windows, new carpeting in the basement, found out the surround sound on my DVD player's fried and swapped it out with a cheap one from another room... and... yeah, I was sick and not a lot of worthwhile stuff happened.
